Vegetarian Dining:
New Mexico Vegetarian-Friendly Restaurants

Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Taos See below for a full list of towns.
We have new info for Ruidoso, thanks to James (from The Spiral Diner in Ft Worth, Texas) and his recent visit to NM!

This list includes some very old sources. It is highly recommended that you call first to verify restaurant info. You can help by notifying us of changes or of vegetarian friendly restaurants that should be added to this list. Please send email to Dining@VSNM.org. Also check out APNM's dining guides at the following links: Albuquerque ~ Santa Fe

Things to be aware of when dining out: Often Mexican restaurants use lard in their refried beans and meat stock in their sauces. Asian restaurants often use oyster sauce, chicken stock, and fish sauce (mainly Vietnamese and Thai). Indian restaurants often use clarified butter (ghee). Many other restaurants believe they can make food better by adding, for example, chicken stock to the rice or deli meats and cheese to salads. It's best to call ahead and inquire about ingredients. Be as specific as you can. One can't assume that restaurant staff will know what is meant by animal ingredients or dairy products.

This is a very long list (about 21 printed pages). Select a link below to move forward to that point in the list. Use the "back" links distributed throughout to bring you back to the menu. The cities, towns and restaurants are listed in alphabetical order. Happy dining!

Check when you go, but we're told by Allan that the Gardenburgers are cooked on a separate grill from the meat burgers. When I emailed them to ask if these are the same burgers that contain cheese this is the response I received, "...our Gardenburgers do contain cheese. As far as vegan items, our fries, side salads, onion rings, and cheese sauce (nondairy) come to mind. Our fries and onion rings are cooked in a blend of vegetable oils and, in most circumstances, are fried in their own bins. Our side salads contain lettuce, tomato, onion, and bell pepper with your choice of dressing. Our cheese sauce, which is served in the dining room, is nondairy and therefore should be acceptable. I suggest you check with management upon your visit in case there are other items available which will conform to your special dietary needs." ~ Amy Fain, Guest Services Team.
